Underground, Overground...
Welcome to the one or two extra followers my blog seems to have aquired of late, hope you enjoy a glimpse of this slightly otherworldy corner of the earth.
After all those photos of the mindblowingly beautiful crevass just up the hill from Rothera, here's a photo of me slithering my way through said ice cavern:
Below you see me making the most of a sunny interval amidst what seemed like a neverending storm. The high winds that day were creating some excellent flying saucer like 'lenticular' clouds over the ridge behind the base. I skied out for a spot of wildlife watching around Rothera Point and bumped into (almost literally) a few cuddly Weddell seals and some Adelie penguins, waddling their way through life in what appears to be a charmingly oblivious fashion.
I'm currently featured on a women in science blog, have a look if you want to find out how I ended up here.

Unbelievable!! What an amazing adventure! I found your blog on the "blogs to note" ...how did you get started in your 'expeditions'??
This is an incredibly interesting blog. I hope you don't mind if this comment is about the blog in general and not this particular post, but it is really great.

Nice blog, I love seeing different places of the world.
Amazing pics and adventures! Stumbled upon your blog through Blogger's "blogs of note." I must say, I would love to visit Antarctica at some point in my life -- I've spent 5 years working up in the Canadian Arctic, and was just so in awe of the wilderness and the beauty. I imagine Antarctica is about 100 times more "wow"!
omg! you go to such beautiful places!!!
Unbelievable.. Reminds me of Shackleton story i heard when i was younger. Hope i get to see the land of the ice before it melts away :P
This is what you call a real blog. Well, I'm just 13 and I want to become a scientist. Life in Antarctica is certainly cool (Literally!)
Absolutely incredible photos. I enjoyed my vicarious trip through the ice caverns!
awesome photos....
greetings!
I hope I can get to know you and your adventures further!
hugs,natalie
where were you?
please look at http://-www29ersblog.blogspot.com/
I found my way here because you were listed on "Blogs of Note". I am commenting because the title of your blog intrigued me. BTW, I have a blogger friend in Nigeria. She recently shared with me that there is NO CHEESE IN NIGERIA. How is that possible? (That was a rhetorical question, btw.) She later told me that they do not understand sarcasm there. (Clearly, I would not last 24 hours there.) I hope that you are not subjected to such harsh conditions in Antarctica. How is your quest for frozen cheese going? Your pictures are awesome and it looks like an adventure of a lifetime. Antarctic Meteorological Update: Today - cold, chance of freezing
Tomorrow - (see yesterday)
the first picture is both incredibly cool and scary. I'm a reptile and love warmth so I love the pictures but wont be going there myself.
I really loved your blog.I am a Geography student and I really liked the way you present your life through photographs.Am blogrolling you-do keep posting..:))) I know it's a really stupid question to ask in the circumstances but couldn't resist-
How is Antarctica?(lolzzz)
What great places to see. Some day I will get to, I hope.
Life can't be more exciting than yours. i envy you, and at least i can follow your journey by this.
hope someday, i can have wonderful adventure like you although i am not a scientist. you inspire me much..thank you.
ps.
i've made a link to your blog in mine.please tell me if you mind.
Great photos and great blog. I live in Salem, Ma, and we have a terrific museum here called the PEM or Peabody Essex Museum. They are currently featuring a special exhibition called To the Ends of the Earth -- about 50 paintings of the Arctic and Antarctic done by painters during the period of 1730 to 1930 or so. Your photos are so terrific and so much on the subject, that your blog reminded me of that great exhibition here in Salem.
